Jerry Dwane Nickel passed from this life on December 30, 2019 at his home in Arnett, OK. with his family by his side. He was 71 years, 4 months, and 23 days of age. He was born to Abraham “Abe” and Opal Means Nickel on August 7, 1948, at Enid, OK. Jerry was raised on “The Hill” North of Fairview, OK. for the first eighteen years of his life. He attended Orienta Grade School and graduated from Fairview High School, having perfect attendance throughout his school years. Following his school years, he lived in Okeene, OK. before being united in marriage to Nina Shields on June 6, 1975, at Woodward, OK. They established their home in Woodward and remained there for thirty-four years before moving to Arnett, OK. eleven years ago. Two sons, Ronnie and Brian, blessed their home. Over the years, Jerry was employed at Ferguson Ford, Irwin Auto, NAPA, O’Reilly’s and WPI as a parts manager. He held various positions in law enforcement including Sheriff of Woodward County.

Jerry enjoyed drag racing and spent hours working on race cars, he won multiple trophies for his efforts. His special interest was martial arts where he attained his 5th degree black belt in Karate and taught as an instructor for eighteen years. He also loved hunting, passing that love on to both sons.

Jerry was baptized at the age of thirteen and was a member of the Methodist Church where he taught children’s church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Abe and Opal Nickel and his brothers, Ray Lee and Leroy Nickel. He is survived by his loving wife, Nina of the home in Arnett, OK., sons Ronnie Nickel and wife Melanie of Erath, LA. and Brian Nickel and wife Natasha of Woodward, OK., his daughter, Katrina Hughes of Chickasha, OK., nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, relatives and many friends.

Family will be receiving friends following the graveside service at the Arnett Senior Citizens Building.

Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research for Cancer in care of Shaw Funeral Home, P.O. Box 276, Vici, OK 73859.
