Terry Linwood Turner

ENID — Terry Linwood Turner was born Nov. 28, 1939, to Volney and Altha Smith Turner at the family home in Vici, Okla. He passed from this life early Thursday morning, Jan. 20, 2011, at his home with his family by his side.

Terry grew up in Vici, where he attended school from Kindergarten through high school, graduating with the class of 1958. He then moved to Enid, Okla., where he resided until his passing.

Terry was united in marriage to Maxine Charlton on Dec. 27, 1976, in Enid, Okla. He was blessed with four daughters, Tara Charlton, Tammy Gayle, Gayla Dawn and Kristi Lynn, and one son, Terry Ronald.

Terry worked as a fireman for the Enid Fire Department. He retired in 1985 as the assistant fire chief. He also worked as a brick mason and was part owner of a motorcycle shop.

In his spare time, Terry enjoyed fishing, hunting, gold mining, photography and collecting.

He was a member of Enid Amateur Ham Radio Club.

Terry was baptized when he was 50 years of age into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. He attended church in Enid and Vici.

He was a faithful member and enjoyed visiting and assisting the needs of the elderly, fellowship with the brethren and teaching and ministering of God's word.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Volney and Altha Turner; sister, Shirley Turner Reiger; grandparents; and many aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Charlton Turner, of the home; daughters, Tammy Gayle Turner and companion David Lee of Edmond, Okla., Gayla Dawn Turner Johnson and husband Jeff of Chandler, Ariz., Kristi Lynn Turner Hilburn of Kremlin, Okla., and Tara Charlton Turner-Coleman and husband Justin of Glenpool, Okla.; sisters, Twila Kaye Maddox and husband Donavon of Albuquerque, N.M., and Shelva Jean Dalrymple and husband Dale of Enid, Okla.; brother, Victor Gordon Turner and wife Chloris of Arnett, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and other family; and many dear friends.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at Church of the Firstborn, Vici, Okla., with burial following in Sunnyside Cemetery, Vici, Okla.

Service arranged by Shaw Funeral Home, Vici, Okla. Visitation will be 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. today, January 22, 2011, at Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home, Enid, Okla., and 1-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at Shaw Funeral Home, Vici, Okla.
