Rhea Byron Moore

Woodward, Okla. — The graveside service for Rhea Byron Moore will be 2:00pm Friday, March 4, 2011 at Sunnyside Cemetery in Vici, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Rhea, son of Leonard and Ella (Littlejohn) Moore, was born in Devol, Oklahoma on February 22, 1917. He died February 25, 2011 at Golden Oaks Village at the age of 94.

Rhea began school in Norman. He later moved to Borger, Texas with his family and from Borger they moved to Vici until 1931 when they moved to Oklahoma City. He attended Capitol Hill Jr. High School where he was elected President of his class. They family moved back to Vici in 1933 and Rhea graduated from Vici High School with the class of 1936 where he was named Valedictorian.

Rhea was employed with Best Way Foods when he was in high school, and on June 4, 1939, he became manager. On September 10, 1939, he married Kathryn Steppelman at the Christian Church in Woodward. To this union, two sons were born, Gordon and Jerry.

In 1957, Rhea became the owner of Best Way Foods and continued operation of the store for 45 years until he sold it upon his retirement in February of 1979.

He was an avid sports fan and a Vici High School athlete competing in football, basketball and track. Later, he especially enjoyed traveling.

He became a member of the Vici Christian Church in 1950, serving as Deacon and an elder. He taught the boys Sunday school class for a time. He was also a member of the Vici Chamber of Commerce, serving as secretary and president.

Rhea and Katherine moved to Golden Oaks Village in 1989 where she passed away and was buried in Sunnyside Cemetery in Vici. He then married Oda Lee Brittain on May 23, 1993. His family and friends were always a joy to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Katherine; son, Gordon; brothers, Ken Moore and Ed Moore; sisters, Sybil Weedon and Lucile Jones as well as a brother and sister who died in infancy.

Rhea is survived by his wife, Oda Lee Moore; son, Jerry Moore of El Reno; stepchildren, Vivian Lee Hawkins of Enid and Patrick Charles Mickle of San Juan, CA; grandchildren, Terri Jean; Michael Moore; Donna Barby and Dena Cook; several great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Moore; sister, Louise Poulson; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
