Cody Lee McDowell was born to Bobby McDowell and Susie Salisbury on February 11, 1979 in Shattuck, OK. He passed from this life on Saturday, June 4, 2016 in Bixby, OK. He was 37 years old.

Cody grew up in Vici, OK and attended Vici Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1997. Growing up he worked for Larry White who became his mentor. Larry and his wife Angela welcomed Cody in their home and they became a second family to him. Cody then attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University for three years.

Cody played football when he was young and basketball in high school that kick started his love for sports and games. Cody loved sports from pickup ball games in Grandma’s backyard, to watching his kids play, to OU and Thunder – Cody was always ready to play. He enjoyed golfing, boating and hunting. Cody loved his family and was always willing to help out, or spend time playing some pitch and razzing you if you lost to him.

After College, Cody worked with Diamond K along the east coast as a directional driller and laying fiber optic cable. He then relocated to Houston, where he worked in the oil field industry before moving back to Oklahoma and settling in Tulsa. In Tulsa, Cody worked for Sidewinder Drilling in sales/marketing and made many friends there with his bright personality.

Cody first became a father to Kiana and Kaiden from a previous marriage and loved spending time with them and watching them grow up.

On February 27, 2016, Cody married Heather Gibson and he became a father again to Emma, Ethan and Hannah, and they welcomed their fourth child Tripp on March 24, 2016. They made their home in Bixby, OK.

Cody never knew a stranger. He was as ornery as he was kind and generous. He was always ready to open his doors to entertain, smoke some meat for you, or take you out on the town or to a Thunder game. Cody was full of life, lit up the room when he came in and always made you feel loved. He was well respected and will be missed.

Cody is survived by his wife, Heather McDowell of Bixby, OK; his children Kaiden, Kiana, Tripp, Emma, Ethan, and Hannah; his father Bobby McDowell of Dardanelle, AR; his sister, Bobbi Lynn and husband Jared Wolcott of Maryland; grandparents John and Dixie Salisbury of Vici, OK; grandmother Leona McDowell of Mooreland, OK; step-brother Adam Miller of Washington; step-father Daryl Zuelsdorf of Woodward, OK; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.

Cody was preceded in death by his mother Susie Zuelsdorf; grandparents, Bid and Edna McDowell; and uncle, Steve Salisbury.
