Carl Dean McDonald was born on August 29, 1935 southeast of Vici, OK to Bob and Mildred McDonald. He departed this life on Monday, February 8, 2016 at the age of 80 years, 5 months, and 10 days.

Carl attended the first grade at Sunnyside Country School (5 miles east of Vici). He then attended school at Vici for 11 years, graduating high school in 1954. He worked various jobs while attending Oklahoma City University, and graduated in 1963 majoring with a Bachelors in Education and a minor in Automotive Technology. He later received a Translating and Interpreting Teaching degree at Oklahoma State University. He also attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University for Special Education classes which gave him training on how to teach special education students automotive skills.

Carl was united in marriage to Bonnie Frances Cravens of Putnam, OK on November 3, 1956 at Carl’s parent’s home. They were married 59 years and were blessed with two children: Carla Sue and Timmy Dean, both of Vici, OK.

Carl was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the First Born in the spring of 1954 by Brother Jud Poulson. Carl loved to travel to different churches of brethren to help out the smaller churches and have fellowship. By developing a special love for the Clinton church, Carl helped reopen their church doors.

After graduation, Carl went to work as an Automatic Transmission Mechanic in Oklahoma City for five years. He then went to work for the Oklahoma City Board of Education for five more years teaching Automotive to High School drop-outs. He had held various teaching jobs for the State Department of Vocational Tech, such as Project Transition for discharged solders at Lawton, OK., A.M.I.D.S (Area Manpower Institute for Development of Staff) at Oklahoma City covering 12 states, Skill Center Teacher Trainer for the State Department of Vocational Tech, Burns Flat area Vocational Tech, Granite Vocational Tech, and a Counselor at R.I.D. (Regimated Inmate Discipline) at Fort Supply totaling 28 years of teaching. The family moved several times while following his work. They lived in Oklahoma City, Lawton, Morrison, and Burns Flat before making their permanent home southeast of Vici in 1985.

Carl also loved to farm and ranch on Saturdays and holidays. He enjoyed raising Polled Hereford cattle and sold bulls at O.B.I. (Oklahoma Beef Inc.) for many years. Carl and Bonnie attended the Oklahoma Cattleman Tour each year. He also enjoyed several trips to Branson with his classmates and one trip to Seattle, WA. And Canada. He loved traveling on bus trips to the National Parks of the Golden West and Glacier National Park in Montana. He helped Oscar Hixon put together a class yearbook for the 50th class reunion for each classmate to enjoy.

Carl also served on several boards: the Oklahoma Hereford Board, the Dewey County Water Board District #3, and the Oklahoma Beef Inc. Board.

Carl had a lot of good times watching his grandchildren show cattle and play sports. He also enjoyed attending country music shows when they performed. He was very proud to see them attend college and graduate. His greatest joy was being able to witness his wife and son being baptized in the faith. Having a house of prayer was something he could never thank God enough for.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Mildred McDonald, parents-in-law Russell and Frances Cravens, brothers-in-law Dale Readnour and Jay Cravens, and one brother Benny McDonald and sister-in-law Margaret McDonald.

Those left cherish his memory are his wife Bonnie McDonald, his children Carla Ladd and her husband Ricky Ladd and Tim McDonald of Vici, one brother Lyman and his wife Margie McDonald of Laramie, WY., two sisters-in-law Betty Readnour of Gage and Glenda Cravens of Putnam, five grandchildren with their spouses: Russell and Becky Ladd, Chris and Emily Ladd, Kason and Casandra Oakes, Drew and Veronica Krause, and Austin Ladd, and three great grandchildren: Mackenzie Ladd and Eason and Jace Oakes, and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of brethren, neighbors, and lifelong friends.
