Wanda Jean Holmes of Vici, Oklahoma, passed from this life on October 12, 2014 in Vici at the age of 77. She was born to Kenneth and Marie Holmes on August 11, 1937 in Kings County, California near Corcoran. She attended school at Caney Grade school in Cherokee County, Oklahoma. She spent her summers picking strawberries and radishes with her older brothers. The family moved to Guymon, OK when she was 10. Through eighth grade, Wanda attended a one room school house in the country. She graduated from Guymon High School in 1955.

Wanda met Dale James while working at the Broadmoore Hotel in Colorado Springs, Co. They married on March 10, 1956. Dale and Wanda were blessed with sons, Mike, Tim and Dan. The family lived in numerous places in Colorado, California and Oklahoma before settling in Vici, OK in 1980. Wanda was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn on October 31, 1972. She loved being around the brethren, visiting and serving the Lord.

Wanda loved children and was especially fond of her grandchildren. It was often a treat to get to bake at grandma's house because she could never quite get all the batter out of the bowl and it must be licked. Bugs and small critters were welcome to be kept in the tins and containers she saved just for that purpose. Grandma's house was known for baby dolls and legos. She enjoyed activities of her grandchildren and was recognized as Fan of the Year for the Vici baseball team in 2009. Wanda babysat for many years and had a special place in her heart for those children. Dale and Wanda loved to travel in their motor home. They visited all of the lower 48 states, taking many pictures in front of lighthouses on the coasts. She enjoyed researching family history with her sister, stamp collecting and Elvis memorabilia.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Marie Holmes, husband, Dale James, brother Kenny Holmes and sister Susie Holmes. Wanda is survived by her son Mike James and wife Bonnie of Vici, son Tim James and wife Teresa of Vici, son Dan James of Tulsa, brother, Dalton Holmes and wife Karen of Sallisaw, sister, Dorothy Sweet of Welling, sister Carol Christie of Welling, OK, sister Gail Overacker and husband Edgar of Stillwater, brother Paul Holmes of Stillwater, fourteen grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, beloved brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
