Barbara Ella (Martin) Halderman

Barbara Ella (Martin) Halderman went to be with her Lord on October 17, 2019 at the age of 84 years, 2 months, and 12 days. Barbara was born to John Elsworth and Mildred Lillian (Bowker) Martin on August 5, 1935 in Longdale, OK. She grew up in the Canton area, attending Canton High School.

On May 23, 1954 she married the love of her life Melvin Duane Halderman in Canton, and to this union three children were born: Melvin Dwayne, Nancy Gail, and Tina Leann. The family made their home in Vici, above Melvin’s grandmother’s barn where the Vici baseball field is located now. Barbara attended the Nazarene Church. Barbara had many hobbies like knitting, crocheting, flower arranging, collecting salt and pepper shakers and business cards, rocks, and seashells. She also did a lot of genealogical and historical research. Along with Melvin they enjoyed square dancing. The couple was known for bottle and bucket feeding cattle in all sorts of weather. However, Barbara’s main passion was attending all the events for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Barbara and her husband Melvin owned and ran the Mobil and Conoco stations and the Dairy Land in Vici. They also managed Granny’s Quickstop in Vici and worked together at the Fruit of the Loom factory in Woodward, OK. They were also a huge part of the Halderman Family Centennial Farm.

In addition to her parents John and Mildred Martin, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Halderman; an infant brother Homer Martin; brother Johnny Lee Martin; sister Veda Evans; two brothers-in-law Louis Evans and Orvis Halderman; two sisters-in-law, Lorene Halderman and Joan Martin; and great grandson Derek Lawrence.

Left to carry her legacy are Barbara’s son Dwayne Halderman; daughter Nancy Lawrence and husband Steve, daughter Tina Lopez and husband Kevin, all of Vici, OK; sister Edith McCracken and husband Jim of Davenport, OK; brothers Richard Martin of Guthrie and Dusty Martin and wife Sherri of Canton, OK; brother-in-law Darell Halderman of Albuquerque, NM; uncle Johnny Bowker of Grand Junction, CO; six grandchildren, Adam Halderman and wife Merri of Vici, Sheldon Halderman and wife Audrea of Vici, Jamie McElroy and husband Chris of Mustang, OK, Jason Lawrence and wife Jennifer of Vici, Jeremy Lawrence of Oklahoma City, and Kevin Lopez and wife Michelle of Vici; twelve great grandchildren, Hunter Halderman, Noah Halderman, Drew McElroy, Lyndon McElroy, Evan McElroy, Garrett Halderman, Wyatt Compton, Roper Love, Matthew Lawrence, Kanaan Lawrence, Devyn McCreight, Eliya McCreight; a great great grandchild, Tate Compton; as well as several other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
