Rosalee Fern (Hale) Freeman

Rosalee Fern (Hale) Freeman
October 19, 1939 ~ August 22, 2019

Rosalee Fern (Hale) Evans Freeman was born October 19, 1939 in Vici, Oklahoma to Leo and Garnet Hale. She passed from this life on August 22, 2019 at her home in Vici, Oklahoma surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and loved ones.

Rosalee attended Vici Grade School and graduated from Vici High School in 1957 where she played basketball and softball. She also enjoyed playing the piano and the accordion.

That summer after graduation, Rosalee’s parents took her to the 4th of July camp meetings in Parkland, OK. During one of the meetings, Rosalee helped an elderly sister to the outhouse. While the two were visiting, the sister told Rosalee she was going to pray that she would meet her son, J.W. Evans and that they would marry. As unlikely as that sounded, the sister’s prayers were answered. In the Fall when Rosalee moved to Wichita, KS to attend business classes she met J.W. and soon after, they were married on December 7, 1957. They established their first home together in Wichita, KS. In December of 1960, they were blessed with their first son, Marty Delee. In 1964, God led them to Snohomish, WA where they made their home for the next five years. While there, their family grew with the arrival of James Lawrence in August 1964 and Garnet JaLea in February 1966. In 1969, they felt God was leading them to move to Pine Bluff, AR, where they lived for 10 years. In December of 1975, their family was complete with the birth of Rusty Alan. In 1977 they moved their family back to Rosalee’s hometown of Vici, OK.

Rosalee and J.W. were blessed with 29 years of marriage before J. W’s passing in 1987. After J.W.’s death, with Rusty being the only child still living at home, they developed a special bond. They traveled many places together and shared a love of sports, especially OU football.

On August 17, 1991 God saw fit to bless Rosalee with another companion, Bro. John Freeman. With John being an elder in Oklahoma City, Rosalee and Rusty relocated to Moore, OK to begin a new chapter in their lives. With this union Rosalee was blessed with three more children and their families, while John became a loving father and grandfather to her family as well. During their 17 years of marriage John and Rosalee had many brethren in their home and traveled many miles among the brethren. Together they enjoyed camping, fishing, raising chickens, and gardening.

Rosalee was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in 1956 by Bro. Judd Poulson. Throughout her life, she strove hard to always serve the Lord. She served as a midwife for many years and saw God’s mercies many times in this gift. Rosalee found great joy in doing for others, whether it was opening her home, cooking a meal, or caring for anyone in need. She loved showing hospitality. There was always room for one more at Rosalee’s. There were many different ones who found a home at Rosalee’s throughout the years. She always enjoyed entertaining or planning a party for the widows, the young kids, or the secret sisters. Holidays were always exciting at Rosalee’s. She loved giving that special gift and making up many fun games for everyone to play. She found great joy working in her yard and garden, canning and preserving the produce, and helping young sisters put up food for their families. Her family brought her much joy. She traveled many miles to watch her children and grandchildren participate in school and sporting events.

Rosalee was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and brethren, but we will cherish the many special memories that remain in our hearts.

Rosalee was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Garnet Hale, husbands J.W. Evans and John Freeman, son Marty Evans, son-in-law Tim Pope, granddaughters Ashley Swezey and Bethany Evans, grandson Zakk Swezey, sister and brother-in-law Geraldine and George Eastman and brother Vestal Hale. She is survived by son James Evans and wife Lisa of Vici, OK, daughter JaLea and husband Greg Swezey of Carlton, WA, son Rusty Evans and wife Mary of Banks, OR , daughter-in-law Kim Evans of Brewster, WA, daughter LaDonna and husband Jay Lyons of Midwest City, OK, son Greg Freeman and daughter Sheryl Steepe both of Oklahoma City, OK, sister-in-law Alice Hale, 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and many more family, brethren and dear friends.
