Leota Mae (Hole) Roper

Leota Mae (Hole) Roper
December 30, 1938 ~ September 27, 2025

Leota Mae (Hole) Roper was born on the farm in Oakwood, Oklahoma on December 30, 1938 to Blanche and Raymond Hole. She passed from this life on September 27, 2025.

Leota attended all 12 grades at Oakwood School and graduated with the class of 1957. On September 21, 1956 she and Billy Ray Roper were united in marriage as seniors in high school. To this union three children were born, Larry, Mary and John. She was a wonderful cook, baker and seamstress. They always had a huge garden and she canned most of the vegetables. She also taught all three children how to cook, clean house, iron and do laundry.

In 1975 Leota went to work at C.R. Anthonys and was there for two years. She then went to work in the Arkla Gas office in 1978 and remained there until her retirement in 1995. Immediately after retiring, she made Mary’s wedding dress and it was beautiful. Then she was able to enjoy spending time with family. She and Bill loved to travel and drove all over the U.S.

Leota was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and dearly loved each of them. She and Bill always attended their school activities, games and celebrations. Those left to cherish her memory are her son Larry and wife Christy, daughter Mary; four grandchildren, Amber Branscum (Marshall), Derek Roper, Ian Roper (Michele) and Lauren Meyerdirk (Cade); five great-grandchildren, Paislee, Colton and Noah Branscum and Greyson and Ashlyn Roper; one brother-in-law, Everett Roper (Lydia); four sister-in-laws, LouAnn Peterman, Elsie Peterman (Dutch), Dianna Anderson (Jerry) and Mary Sue Dale; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bill; son John; brother-in-laws Billy Dale and Wesley Peterman.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 4, 2025 at the Watonga Christian Church with Pastor Adam Lovitt officiating. Interment will follow at the Oakwood Memorial (IOOF) Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to the Watonga Christian Church or the Watonga Senior Citizens Center. Condolences may be shared online at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
