John Allen Roper

John Allen Roper
April 3, 1961 ~ May 21, 2024

John Allen Roper was born in Thomas, Oklahoma on April 3, 1961 to Bill and Leota (Hole) Roper. He passed away on May 21, 2024 at the age of 63 from an unexpected heart attack. Even though a failing heart took him away from this world, his loving heart left a beacon of light for the remaining loved ones.

John attended school in Oakwood, Seiling and graduated in Watonga. After graduation he attended Southwestern State University where he received a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in computer science. He also received a PhD in clinical psychology. With this degree he worked in various positions with the State of Oklahoma for 35 years. After this he went to Redlands Community College to pursue a degree as a registered nurse so he could take care of his parents as they aged. He also worked within the SSM health community. He retired in April 2021 after his dad had a quadruple bypass surgery.

When John wasn’t working he enjoyed playing games, talking about comic books, and going to movies with his son Ian. He collected anything Peanuts related and dragon related. He was also an avid reader and loved a good workout. He was a student and teacher of martial arts for many years. Following in his Dad’s footsteps, he donated blood when he could. He received his 5 gallon pin on the day he passed.

Those left to mourn his passing are his son Ian and wife Michele; mother Leota; brother Larry and wife Christy; and sister Mary Flynn; nieces Amber and Paislee Branscum, Lauren Flynn, Ashlee and Ashlyn Roper; nephews Derek and Greyson Roper, Marshal, Colton and Noah Branscum; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his dad Bill; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at the Watonga Christian Church on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Adam Lovitt officiating and laid to rest in Oakwood Memorial Cemetery. Services entrusted to Pierce Funeral Home in Canton.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, Watonga Senior Citizen Center or the Watonga Christian Church with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 36, Canton OK, 73724. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
