Margaret Frances (Potts) Ames

Margaret Frances Ames, 94, was born in Grandfield, OK on October 25, 1926 to Lola and Thomas Potts. She passed on June 9, 2021 surrounded by loved ones.

She spent her early years in Grandfield, OK. ln 1939 her parents and siblings moved to Canton, OK. She attended Canton schools for a few years before entering into the work force at a young age. She met the love of her life in 1945, Raymond Ames. They married on April 27, 1946 and settled in Canton, OK. One year later they welcomed their first child, Ella Marie on June 18, 1947. Later in the years they welcomed their second child, Marilyn Rae on January 25, 1956. She continued to work around town as a waitress and a clerk for several years. In the late 1970’s to the early 90s she helped her daughter Ella run a cafe in town.

In the late 60’s they purchased a beautiful cabin in Colorado, they loved the place dearly. The cabin burned in 1974, and they immediately began construction on their dream cabin.

She loved her grandchildren and all of them were very special to her. She enjoyed company and Sunday dinners with her family.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Ames, daughter Ella Marie, great grandson Cameron Ray, her parents Lola and Thomas Potts, and two brothers Roy Potts and Bill Potts.

She is survived by her fur companion Baby, her daughter Marilyn Jackson and husband Steve of Oakwood; grandaughters Charity Grothe and “the neighbor” Keith of Hitchcock, OK; Melanie Corley and husband Randall of Magnolia, TX; Brittany Atteberry and husband Richard of Chester, OK; grandson Mike Grothe of Canton, OK; two bonus granddaughters Tesha Bruce and Tisha Beshirs; great-grandchildren Kyle Stong, Luke Boeckman, Chelsae Grothe, Autumn Grothe, Kade Murray, Randall Corley III, Dylan Corley and 5 great-great-grandchildren, and many others she considered her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at the Canton Christian Church with Chaplain Donnetta Hunter and Keith Robinett officiating. Interment will follow at Munice Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to the Munice Cemetery Association or the Canton Christian Church with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724.
