Alverto "Mike" Garza
September 11, 1937 ~ December 23, 2017

Alverto "Mike" Garza was born September 11, 1937 to Fredrico and Maria Garza in Hebbronville, TX, and passed from this life on December 23, 2017, in Amarillo, TX. Mike grew up and graduated in Hebbronville and in 1955, on his 18th birthday, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served for four years, with part of his tour of duty spent in Guam. In 1959, he transferred to the Naval Reserves, being honorably discharged in 1961.

On May 15, 1959 Mike married Marlene Newton in Campbell, CA, and they made their home in Bell Gardens, CA. Together they raised four children, Thomas, Michael, Diane, and Judy. Mike was employed by Anchor Glass Container as a maintenance mechanic for 32 years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge for 53 years. After his retirement, Mike and Marlene moved to Leedey, OK, where he remodeled their home, adding on rooms and a deck, and enjoyed working in the yard.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife Marlene and parents Fredrico and Maria Garza.

He is survived by his children Thomas Farris of Diamond Bar, CA, Michael Garza of El Centro, CA, Diane Barrayo of Santa Maria, CA, and Judy Parker of Newton, IA; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Leedey First Baptist Church in care of Shaw Funeral Home.
