Lola Mary "Johnie" Rounds

Lola Mary (Johnie) Watson Rounds, 104 year old resident of Leedey, OK, passed on September 24, 2021 in Elk City, OK. Johnie was born on the family farm near Aledo, OK to Clarence and Willie (Williams) Watson on July 9, 1917. She joined her sister Vola Mae and later her brother Clarence Odell was born. Johnie attended Center Point rural school through the 8th grade. She also attended the rural Methodist Church near their home. Johnie loved to help her dad on the farm, and her dad always said he would just as soon have her as any man he knew for help.

On December 22, 1934, Johnie married Lowell Dewey Rounds in Arapaho at the courthouse and to this union two sons were born Billy Lowell and Lyle Wayne. They bought their farm southeast of Rhea in 1941. Johnie was a farmer’s wife and homemaker. She enjoyed helping Lowell on the farm and with his carpentry work. Johnie sanded, painted, and helped with Lowell’s cabinet making. While continuing to farm and do carpentry work, they built their new home in Leedey in 1970. After retiring and moving to Leedey, they enjoyed their RV travels with family and friends, attended ballgames and school activities of grandchildren, and even listened to the radio of great grandchildren's games.

was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Leedey. She enjoyed quilting and all her family have these treasures to keep them warm. She made draperies for several new homes for family and friends. Johnie loved the challenge of accomplishing new crochet, knitting, sewing, quilting patterns, and wood craft. She could snap cotton on her two rows or three and keep up with Billy and Lyle at the same time. Johnie’s home was always open with food and love to share anytime and she will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

is preceded in death by her husband Lowell Rounds, parents Clarence and Willie Watson, daughter-in-law Maxine Rounds, sister and brother-in-law Vola and John Murphy, brother Odell Watson, brother-in-law Lester and wife Clemmie Rounds, brother-in-law Wilson and wife Ellen Rounds and nephew Marshall Murphy.

She is survived by her sons Billy Rounds of Leedey, OK, Lyle Rounds and wife Catherine of Leedey, OK; grandsons Kenny Rounds and wife Debbie of Leedey, OK and Shawn Rounds of Leedey, OK; granddaughters Janet Brown and husband Rick of Cherokee, OK, Shayla Hurlbut and husband Jeff of Tulsa, OK, Shalena Stelzig and husband Jody of Lockhart, TX; great grandchildren and spouses Gayla (David), Jason (Kristen), Jocelyn (Kaleb), Sheldon (Chelsie), Brittany (Jermaine), Breanna (Jordan), Brookelyn, Brylie (Hayden), Kenzie; great great grandchildren Blake, Brant, Breck, Ansley, Shiloh, Coburn, Kennedy, Briggs, Mila, Jazzlyn, and Marshall; sister-in-law Icie Mae Watson; many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
