SEILING - A wake service for Woodrow Whitecrow, 78, of Seiling, will be 7 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Seiling-Fonda Community Center. The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the community center. Burial will be in Brumfield Cemetery , Seiling. Arrangements are by Redinger Funeral Home, Seiling.

He was born Aug. 24, 1931, in Fonda to Alfred and Bertha Black Beard Whitecrow and died Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Watonga Municipal Hospital.

He grew up east of Seiling and attended Pumpkin Ridge School. He entered the Navy, serving in Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1952.

He returned to Oklahoma and married Naomi Fern Hill. He worked as a cross country truck driver and a heavy equipment operator. He later married Delores Tutu. They made their home in Ashland, Mont., for several years. He returned to Oklahoma, where he made lived in Anadarko before moving to Geary Nursing Home.

He was a gourd dancer with the Cheyenne-Arapaho tribes. He was an Elk Society clan member and sun dance priest. He also was a member of the Seiling Indian Mennonite Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Wanada Red Hat of Longdale, Bertha Colleen Thunderbull of Geary and Edwina Whitecrow Fire of California; one stepbrother, Delford Whitecrow of Elk City; one adopted brother, Walter Black Wolf of Lame Deer, Mont.; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, two daughters, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
