GEORGE GILBERT WHETSTONE

GEORGE GILBERT WHETSTONE, oldest of nine sons born to Gilbert William and Will Dean (Custer) Whetstone, was born January 27, 1942 at Fairview, OK. He died Friday, November 9, 2012 at his home in Seiling at the age of 70 years.

George was raised on the family farm southeast of Chester. He attended Lakeside School through the 8th grade then transferred to Seiling High School where he graduated with the class of 1959. He attended Northwestern at Alva a short time. He married Marilyn Edsel, August 8, 1960 at Canton. They had three children, Glenda, Debra and Greg. He had a daughter Georgia with Violet Black, a son Damon with Jenny Mae Coffey and a son Tajon Skye with Gail Hill. George worked in the oil fields many years as a driller and tool pusher. After he became disabled, he did farm work for Bud Sander until his health no longer permitted him to work. George liked to fish and he enjoyed planting and raising watermelons.

He is survived by his children: Glenda (John) Nichols of Harrah, Debbie (Virgil II) Louthan of Chester, Greg (Chesney) Whetstone of Oklahoma City. Georgia Black of Oklahoma City, Damon Whetstone (Chasity Jernigan) of Seiling and Tajon Skye Hill-Whetstone of Seiling; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren, his mother, Will Dean Whetstone of Chester, six brothers, Arlyn, Randy, Merl and Kenny all of Chester, Larry of Taloga and Danny of Hooker. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Gary and Donnie.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 12, 2012 at the Elm Grove Community Church with Pastor Orville White, officiating. Interment will be in the Brumfield Cemetery directed by the Redinger Funeral Home.
