Berny Joe Sander

Berny Joe Sander
March 20, 1941 ~ March 27, 2020

Berny Joe Sander was born on March 20, 1941, to Ralph and Crystal Sander, the second of four boys, and departed his earthly life on March 27, 2020. He lived his entire life in Dewey County, farming, ranching, and auctioneering. He graduated from Seiling High School and attended college at Southwestern and Oklahoma State University, as well as Ft. Smith Auction School. Berny and his wife Linda Sue (Bensch) are the parents of two daughters, Tammy Mercer and Suzanne Wint. He was an active member of the First Christian Church where he was an elder, the Gideons International, the Seiling Masonic Lodge, and was inducted into the Dewey County Historical Society Hall of Fame in 2013. Berny was a real estate broker and auctioneer, and auctioned cattle at Seiling, Woodward, Fairview, and Clinton sale barns, along with conducting many real estate and farm related auctions throughout the years.

He spent much time volunteering his services for any and all youth programs in Seiling and throughout Dewey County. Berny has been the auctioneer for the Seiling and Taloga FFA Trophy Auctions for many years, as well as the Dewey County Premium Auction and is also a past president of the Seiling Livestock Boosters Club. If there was a fund raising event for a worthy cause in the area, Berny would be there volunteering his time and services, as well as announcing all of the parades in Seiling. He was an active worker in the Seiling Rodeo Club since its inception 35 years ago and was selected Grand Parade Marshal in 2005. His hobbies were playing golf, camping, fishing, and quail hunting with his father-in-law. He especially enjoyed going to baseball games, where he and his wife traveled to games throughout the Central United States with Ronnie and Lin Livingston, and later with his family from coast to coast to MLB games.

Surviving are his wife Linda Sue of the home; daughters Tammy Mercer and husband Rick, and Suzanne Wint and husband Dee; four grandchildren, Randi Matulich and husband Mario, Jordy Mercer and wife Kasey, Chandler Wint, Allie Wint; as well as six great grandchildren, Maverick, Maddon, and Manning Mercer, and Brooks, Leo Berny, and Edie Matulich; three brothers Lanny, Lindy, and Monty Sander, his brother-in-law Leonard Bensch and wife Diana, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Lloyd and Nettie Lou Bensch, and sister-in-law Betty Sander.

Dementia is limited. It cannot cripple love. In cannot corrode faith. It tries but cannot eat away peace. It cannot destroy confidence. It cannot kill friendship. It cannot shut out memories. It cannot silence courage. It cannot invade the soul. It cannot reduce Eternal Life. It cannot quench the Spirit. It cannot lessen the power of the Resurrection.

As recommended by our state membership, Berny’s funeral service will be limited to immediate family. You will be able to watch a stream of the service on our facebook page Shaw and Redinger Funeral Homes. You can also sign the guestbook on our website at shawfuneralhome.net

The services will go live shortly before 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 from the First Christian Church in Seiling.

Burial will follow the service at Brumfield Cemetery.

Memorial Donations in Berny's honor may be made to the Brumfield Cemetery (Fence Fund) or the Seiling Nursing Center (Building Fund) with Redinger Funeral Home (Box 236, Seiling, OK 73663) serving as custodian of the funds.
