Ramona Ruth Jordan Redinger

RAMONA RUTH REDINGER, youngest of two daughters born to Frank Marion and Ruth (Sheridan) Jordan, was born March 31, 1920 on the Jordan family farm near Claflin, Kansas in Barton County. She died Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the Seiling Community Hospital at the age of 93 years.

At an early age, she moved to Wichita, KS where she was raised and educated. She graduated with honors, from North Wichita High School in 1938. She furthered her education and completed courses at American Business College in Wichita. She was united in marriage to James D. Redinger, March 3, 1940 at her sister’s home in Wichita. They moved to Seiling where James worked for his dad in their family business and Ramona worked at Sabin’s Dry Goods Store. In 1942, they moved to Wichita where James worked at Boeing and Ramona did secretarial work for Wesley Hospital. Their first child, Saundra Sue was born in Wichita. James entered the U. S. Army in 1943 and Ramona continued working in Wichita until he was honorably discharged in 1946. They returned to Seiling and entered a partnership with his brother in the Redinger Funeral Home and Redinger Hardware, both businesses established by James’ parents, Sam and Maude Redinger. In 1948, their son Ronnie Rex was born and in 1950 they moved their family into the Redinger Funeral Home where they have continued to make their home. She remained active in the family business helping with the bookkeeping and helping at the funeral home in whatever capacity she was needed.

Ramona was active in the Seiling Friends Church where she taught Sunday school many years and served on numerous church committees. She was a member of the Music Lovers Club and took an active role in the Ombudsman program through the club. She was a volunteer through the Seiling-Chester Center for Senior Citizens many years.

She is survived by one daughter: Saundra Powell and husband Bob of Fort Collins, CO, one son: Ronnie Redinger and wife Linda of Seiling; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren: Rod Powell and wife Mila of Phoenix, AZ and their children Daniel and Emily, Courtney Goldfain and husband Dave of Fort Collins, CO and their children: Jaden and Dylan; Dustin Redinger and wife Jennifer of Seiling and their daughters: Karsyn and Kaiden and Darrin Redinger and wife Keli of Chicago, IL. She is also survived by two half sisters: Thelma Corley and husband Keith of Denver, CO and Frances Day of Hutchinson, KS, a nephew, David Cox and wife Judy of Collinsville, besides other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Redinger, January 25, 2008; one great grandson: Greyson James Redinger, one sister, Genevieve Cox and three half brothers: Billy, Leroy and Lloyd Jordan.
