JERRY LEE HURT

July 02, 1935 - January 10, 2018

Jerry Lee Hurt, 82, of Chester passed from this life on January 10, 2018 at his home. He was born on July 2, 1935 to Charles and Lily Mae (Louthan) Hurt on the family farm near the Orion Community. He was raised in the area graduating high school with the Class of 1953. Later that year, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Gynith Charlene (Winters) Hurt on December 27, 1953 in Woodward by Pastor Melvin Hartzell. To this union of 64 years, three children, Sheila, Gynith Lynn, and Terry were born. The family lived in Oklahoma City where Jerry worked as a salesman at Southwestern Stationary and Bank Supply. Upon retirement, the couple moved back to Chester, where Jerry’s favorite pastime was feeding the cows. Jerry was also known to frog hunt on occasion, but only on the way to the pastures. The couple were members of the Elm Grove Community Church.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, sister Margaret Camp, brother John Hurt, and a daughter Gynith Lynn Dupus.

He is survived by his wife Gynith of the home; daughter Sheila Abbott and husband Dewitt of Seiling, son Terry Hurt and girlfriend Regina of Chester, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a sister Lynda Janey Hurt, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Elm Grove Community Church in Chester, OK. Burial will follow at Brumfield Cemetery.

Memorial Donations in Jerry’s honor may be made to Area Medical Foundation or the Orion Fire Department with Redinger Funeral Home (Box 236, Seiling, OK 73663) serving as custodian of the funds.
