Deloris Maxine (Marshall) Hort

Deloris Maxine (Marshall) Hort
August 3, 1935 ~ July 3, 2024

Deloris Maxine Hort was born August 3, 1935 at Oakwood, Oklahoma, the youngest of eight daughters born to Earnest Carl and Nettie Ellen (Wilson) Marshall. She departed this life early Wednesday morning, July 3, 2024 at Cimarron, Kansas.

Maxine grew up in Oakwood and graduated with the class of 1953 of Oakwood High School. She worked in a variety of positions including at a glove factory, elementary and middle schools, and a grain elevator. However, she spent quite a few years in the banking industry progressing her way through multiple positions. Maxine enjoyed square dancing, quilting, and sudoku puzzles. She treated shopping like a sport and she was the star player. The best role that Maxine played was grandmother. She dearly loved the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She played games, read stories, and shared tasty treats with her grandchildren. She wasn't afraid to put on silly costumes, make funny faces, or swing on the swings. Everyone that knew Maxine affectionately agreed that she was born without a filter. She was full of spunk and someone once referred to her as a little firecracker. It is fitting that she crossed over on this Fourth of July holiday.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Guy Hort; seven sisters, Rosie Cain, Nellie Rogers, Nida Huckins, Juanita Williams, Fern Newbill, Evelyn Graham, and Carlynn Haney. She is survived by two sons, Guy Curtis Hort and wife Deb of Yukon, OK and Clayton Hort and wife Lisa of Garden City, KS; one daughter, Melissa Hort-Overton and husband Mark of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Curtis Hort, Tyler Hort, Travis Jensen-Hort (Taylor), Shannon Miller (Joe), Molly Van Norden (Vince), Guy Todd (Holli), Mae Waldron (Joel Myers), Bryce Hort, Dede Vanns (Kash), Drew Overton (Mary), Matthew Overton, Eric Heyde, and J.W. Moon; and several great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Shepherd Center in Cimarron, KS, which lovingly provided the best care possible for Maxine, through Pierce Funeral Home, P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK, 73724. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
