Lavon (Krows) Gore

Lavon (Krows) Gore
March 26, 1939 ~ February 25, 2020

Lavon (Krows) Gore, of Seiling, passed from this life on February 26, 2020. She was born on March 26, 1939 in Cestos, OK to Walter Jewel “Jake” Krows and Ines May (Sumpter) Krows.

She was raised on the farm southeast of Cestos. As the oldest of four children, she helped with the farm work, even driving the wheat truck during harvest. Lavon attended the Richmond schools graduating with the Class of 1957, the last year the school was in operation. She later attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, receiving an Associate’s Degree in Business.

Lavon was also a talented piano player. When she was still in high school, she had the honor of playing the piano with Chet Atkins at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, which is the original Grand Old Opry.

On November 15, 1959 Lavon was married to the love of her life Alton Leo Gore in Seiling. The couple worked for Alton’s father Floyd at the Gore’s Phillips 66 Service Station, later purchasing the business from Floyd in 1967. Lavon was very involved in the business, but her first job was always raising their three boys: Tony, Gary, and Marty Gore.

Lavon was always involved in the community, participating in Music Lovers Club, Friendly Neighbors Club, Richmond Alumni Association, Seiling Booster Club, Cub Scouts, and played the piano and organ for the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. You could find her at all the Seiling Wildcat events or traveling to watch OU play. In 2007, Lavon was awarded the Seiling Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Business Woman Award, and in 2017 she served as the Seiling Rodeo Grand Parade Marshall. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, beating her family at pitch, playing the piano, and listening to Elvis.

In addition to her parents, Lavon was preceded in death by her son, Marty Gore, and her brother, Dale Krows.

Left to carry her legacy are her husband of 60 years, Alton Gore; sons Tony Gore and wife Genia of Tuttle, OK, Gary Gore and wife Shawn of Seiling, and daughter-in-law Amy Gore of Seiling; eight grandchildren, Derrick Gore and wife Mackensie of Seiling, Kyle Gore and wife Tayler of Tuttle, Makinze Gore of Brooklyn, NY, Aaron Gore and wife Stacy of Seiling, Garrett Gore and wife Alma of Seiling, Jacob Gore and wife Madison of Perkins, OK, Hogan Gore of Washington, DC, and Graham Gore of Norman, OK; four great grandchildren with one more arriving shortly; sister Rosetta Harris of Alva, OK; brother Rick Krows of Seiling; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral Services for Lavon will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Seiling at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 2, 2020. Burial is to follow at Brumfield Cemetery.

Memorial in Lavon’s honor may be made to the Brumfield Cemetery in care of Redinger Funeral Home (Box 236, Seiling, OK 73663).
