William "Berk" Buffalomeat
August 2, 1973 ~ November 25, 2019

William "Berk" Buffalomeat, (Cheyenne: Vóohéméó'o-vé'kėséheve -é'e'še “Morning Bird Whistle ”) was born on August 2, 1973 to a long line of Cheyenne Arrow Keepers including One Ear Little Man Old Sioux, Black Kettle, Jay Inez Cloudchief Black, and Jim Medicine Elk. Old Sioux received 160 acres of land from President Harrison.

Berk was born to Louise White Horse, a northern Cheyenne chief woman and Frank Nelson Buffalomeat in Clinton, Oklahoma. He grew up with his grandparents Mary and Harry White Horse in Seiling where he attended grade school at Seiling Public Schools. He later attended Riverside Indian School in Anadarko, OK. Harry White Horse was a combat veteran in Korea, as was his uncle Sterling White Horse; and Frank Nelson was a combat veteran in Vietnam. In the tradition of Old Sioux, Harry White Horse had received an award for outstanding achievement from President Ronald Reagan, and Louise White Horse received an award for 25 years of safe driving, also from President Reagan. He worked as a supervisor for National Beef in Liberal, KS, for a natural gas company in Lame Deer, MT having received his CLEET Certification from the vocational rehab in El Reno, OK. for the tribe in the maintenance department. Berk preformed at the Cheyenne Sundance several times. He was a member of the Kit Fox Society.

Berk had one child, Breanna Buffalomeat. He also had three traditional Cheyenne sisters, Little (Lime) Miller, and aunt Ardena White Shield. On November 25, 2019, Berk passed from this life at his home. Berk was preceded in death by his father Frank Buffalomeat; brother Wylan Buffalommeat; and aunt Ardena White Shield. Berk is survived by his daughter Breanna Buffalomeat; mother Louise White Horse; brother, Nelson Buffalomeat, a warrior chief, of Wyoming, and many other relatives and friends.

A traditional Cheyenne Wake will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 7:00 PM at the home (308 N. Oak, Seiling, OK 73663).

Funeral Services will be Sunday, December 1, 2019 at 2:00 PM also at the home. Burial is to follow at Brumfield Cemetery.
