Gene Eldon Chancellor
February 19, 1935 ~

Gene Eldon Chancellor was born on February 19, 1935, in Kenwood, OK, to Jess Gifford & Beulah Elvira (Harp) Chancellor. He passed from this life on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, in Tahlequah, OK, at the age of 90.

Gene grew up near Welch Prairie, where he attended school. On April 9, 1954, he married the love of his life, Bonnie Marie Melton, in Pryor, OK. Together, they made their home in Rose, where Gene lived most of his life.

A man of great integrity & unmatched work ethic, Gene was known for his strong hands & even stronger heart. He was a gifted welder, a former dairy farmer, & a lifelong rancher who rarely strayed far from his land. Cattle were his passion, & ranching was more than a job—it was his way of life. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed roping, & spent countless hours on his tractor. Always self-employed, Gene devoted himself to providing for his family & took immense pride in being a husband, father, & grandfather.

Above all, Gene loved his family deeply. He was a devoted husband, a caring father, & a proud grandfather, great-grandfather, & great-great-grandfather.

Gene is survived by: his beloved wife of 71 years: Bonnie Chancellor, of the home; 1 daughter: Shirley Black & husband Rosco of Salina, OK; 3 sons: Randy Chancellor and wife Rachele of Spavinaw, OK, Steve Chancellor & wife Brenda of Rose, OK, & Kerry Chancellor & wife Kelly of Salina, OK; 8 grandchildren: Wendell Black & wife Jamie of Salina, OK, Deanna Ball & husband Bub of Salina, OK, Kristy Perry & husband Will of Cashion, OK, April Pierce & husband Aaron of Locust Grove, OK, Sarah Johnson of Pryor, OK, Steven Chancellor of Locust Grove, OK, Katrina Tramel of Salina, OK, & Kendyl Stephenson of Salina, OK; 23 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; 1 sister: Donnis Clinton & Herman Smith of Wyandotte, OK; Gene also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, & a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; one grandson: Dale Black; 6 brothers: Leroy, Lester, Norman, Erva, J.G., & Ralph Chancellor; & 2 sisters: Edith Kirk & Gladys Kerns.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Welch Prairie Cemetery, north of Rose. Pastor Joe Pigeon will officiate. Services are entrusted to Locust Grove Funeral Home.
