Joan Ellis was born on September 10, 1943, in Kenwood, OK, to Dennis Samuel & Mollie (King) Lacy. She passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025, in Tulsa, OK, at the age of 81.
Joan grew up in Kansas, OK, where she attended school before taking various classes at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. Throughout her life, she worked in several roles, including at the hospital in Siloam Springs, at Ghost Bear & Moore Furniture Restoration Company, & with the Cherokee Nation Job Corps in Tahlequah.
Joan was a woman of faith & attended Elm Prairie Baptist Church in Leach whenever she was able. She found joy in simple pleasures—working puzzles, reading magazines, & making crafts. She especially loved being outdoors, tending to her yard, caring for flowers, & riding her lawnmower. Joan adored her pets, including her beloved dog, Lady, & cherished time spent with her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving & selfless woman who always thought of others. Her kindness & presence will be deeply missed by family & friends.
She is survived by: Her 2 daughters: Kim Ellis of Glenpool, OK, & Jennifer Coon & husband Jeremy of Sapulpa, OK; 8 grandchildren: Alexis Ellis, Adrian Puerta, Dayla Bear, Jaeden Sweetman & husband Matthew, Jerika Coon, Desmond Bible, Koda Ellis, & Mekko Coon; great-grandchildren: Nokose Tubby & Yona Ellis; nephews: Jerry Lacy of Rose, OK, & Benny Cochran of Rose, OK; 1 niece: Lorraine Cochran-Powell of Kansas, OK; Cousins: Carrie Lacy & husband Gerald of Locust Grove, OK, & Terry Fields of West Siloam Springs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 son: Markham Ellis; 1 brother: Leo Lacy; 2 sisters: Rosie Lee Cochran & Mary Millsap; & numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Elm Prairie Church in Leach, Oklahoma, with Jerry Lacy officiating. Interment will follow at Euwasha Cemetery in Kenwood, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to Locust Grove Funeral Home.
