Donald Ray Horn, age 89, of Rose, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025. He was born on July 18, 1935, in Akron, Ohio, to Hershel and Elizabeth Sarah (Perkins) Horn.
Donald grew up in Ohio, where he graduated from Springfield High School in 1953. He continued his education at The Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Civil Engineering. On September 17, 1955, Donald married Jolene Strack in Akron, Ohio, and the two shared over 69 years of marriage.
Known for his love of the open road, Donald spent much of his career on the move. He worked as a packaging engineer with North America Rockwell and later as a mobile home mover. He retired as a truck driver for Celadon Group. Donald and Jolene moved to Oklahoma in 1963, making Rose their home in 1964. He attended the Leach First Baptist Church.
Beyond work, Donald had a variety of interests. He was a prolific boxer, and he set track records in running hurtles in high school. He enjoyed swimming and lifeguarding, watching westerns, and riding his motorcycle. A talented chess player, Donald also had a passion for designing and drawing house plans, however he enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His family was his greatest joy, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Donald is survived by: His loving wife, Jolene, of the home; 5 children: Cheryl Anderson of Anadarko, Oklahoma, Mark Horn and wife Anita of Fort Waldon Beach, Florida, Loretta Perry and husband Reed of Pryor, Oklahoma, Teresa Thompson and husband Wyman of Leach, Oklahoma, and Valarie Howe and husband Rocky of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; 17 grandchildren: Christie White, Mark D. Horn, Christopher Gable, David Gable, Mindi Acree, Kelly Link, Brandon Horn, Courtney Geiger, Brandi Hill, Jesse Perry, Jake Perry, Nevaeh Perry, Douglas Thompson, Michael Thompson, John David Horn, Jake Howe, and Jenna Vancuren; 22 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 1 sister: June Luethold and husband Frank of Knoxville, Tennessee; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, great grandson Jaidon DuBois, and granddaughter Julie Perry.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Leach First Baptist Church, with Pastor Eric Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow at Elm Cemetery, near Leach, Oklahoma. Arrangements have been entrusted to Locust Grove Funeral Home.
