Melbourne "Moon" Dorsey

Funeral services for Drumright resident, Moon Dorsey, was held 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2015 in the Drumright First Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Drumright Oak Hill Cemetery. Melbourne “Moon” Dorsey was born in Heavener, Oklahoma on August 8, 1931 to the late Charles Ernest Dorsey & Ora Ellen (Cagle) Dorsey. He passed from this life on November 5, 2015 at the age of 84 years, 2 months, & 28 days. Moon was raised & educated south of Heavener in the Stapp-Zoe community. In 1940, his family moved to Drumright where he finished school & graduated from Drumright High School. He joined the United States Navy & was stationed in San Diego, Ca & the island of Guam. Moon worked as a pipeliner until 1955 when he went to work at the Cushing Midland Co-Op/Hudson refinery. He worked as an operator & shift supervisor for 22 years until it closed. He then went to work for Universal Oil Products (UOP) as chief technical advisor. He traveled the world with UOP working in checkout, pre-commissioning, startup & operation of processing units. Traveling to over 30 countries, he had “never met a stranger”. He retired in 1992. Moon loved fishing farm ponds & hunting quail & pheasant with his beloved German Shorthair bird dogs, Joe & Sam. He was at home on a dance floor & enjoyed people of all types. He was also a fan of OU & OSU football. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 BROTHERS: Harold Dorsey & Clyde Dorsey; 4 SISTERS: Nadine Boyles – Vera Harrison – Christine Vinson – Verdia Robbins; 2 NEPHEWS: Jack Vinson & Steve Robbins; a GREAT GRANDSON: Mason Dorsey.

His remaining family includes his SON: Mel Dorsey & wife Janice of Stillwater; GRANDSON: Trace Dorsey & wife Heather; GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Parker & Madelyn Dorsey; SISTER'S-IN-LAW: Virginia Dorsey of Drumright – Juliene Dorsey of Sand Springs; former wives: Rosie Dorsey of Ripley – Brenda Dorsey of Texas; & a host of Nieces - Nephews – other relatives & friends.
