Kathryn Payton of Miami died at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at her home after an illness. She was 69.

Payton was born Nov. 4, 1934, in Miami to Harvey and Edna (Pliler) Sharp.

She worked in home health care for several years before retiring in 2001. She was a member of the Rebeccas and the Order of the Eastern Star. She attended Southeast Baptist Church of Commerce.

She married Loyd Payton on Dec. 23, 1952, in Arkansas. He preceded her in death on April 3, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one great-grandson.

Survivors include five daughters, Janice Merino of Kansas City, Kan., Teresa Freeman of Baxter Springs, Kan., Donna Cantwell of Gravios Mill, Mo., Deanna “DeDe” Demel of Miami and Yolanda Wright of Ozark, Mo.; three brothers, Joie Sharp of Grove, Harvy Bernard Sharp of Commerce and Eldon Sharp of Houston, Texas, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grand-children.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Southeast Baptist Church of Commerce with the Rev. Jerry VonMoss officiating.

Pallbears will be Charles Freeman, Alan Wright, Attilio Merino, Roy Demel, Mark Cantwell and Joshua Payton.

The body will be cremated.

A private family service will be held in Williams Timberhill Cemetery, east of Welch.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Thomas Funeral Home of Welch.
