Kenneth Wayne “Bud” Campbell of Big Cabin passed away on March 11, 2026. He was born March 14, 1937, to Ruth Ann (Surine) and Everett Campbell. Bud’s mother Ruth passed from a doctor’s blunder on March 3, 1940, just 11 days before Bud’s 3rd birthday. After her passing Bud lived with his grandparents Fred and Hettie (Gish) Campbell until sometime later when his dad married Ruth’s older sister, Catherine.
As a very young boy Bud learned to operate farm machinery. He was just natural at doing that and sometimes a person would think he did not know how until they gave him the opportunity to prove himself.
Bud accepted Jesus when he was 12 years old at the Big Cabin Baptist church. He attended Big Cabin school graduating from the class of 1955. After that he went for a short period of time to welding school and was told by the teacher that he already knew all that the teacher could teach him. His dad taught him how to weld, and Bud had been doing that for a long time. He was offered a job as a welder but decided to pursue another career. Bud joined his dad and grandfather doing custom combining going to Texas, Western OK, and up through the Dakotas. He later bought a well drill and drilled many water wells and some oil wells.
In Bud’s teens the guys of Big Cabin would go to Pryor to meet girls, go to movies, Dairy Queen, and the skating rink. It was a church party held at the skating rink where he met his future wife. When it was flashlight time and the girls were skating, the boys would shine the light on the girl that they wanted to skate with. Bud decided he wanted to meet Ruth and right away felt she was the one for him. They went on a double date the following night, and as they say, the rest is history. They were married June 1, 1957, at Pryor Osage Freewill Baptist Church. That same month they headed for a wheat harvest in Billings, OK spending several months doing custom work. After the children were born Ruth stayed home and Bud soon gave up that career. Bud was assistant mail carrier until a job opened at Peabody Coal Company and he was offered a job operating heavy equipment. After 10 years at Peabody, he decided to open his own business, discovering that it was not his forte. He sold that business and ended his career driving a truck.
Bud was very good at building things; he built his own pond digger for which he obtained a patent. He dug ponds and cleaned some out. Many people came to him to repair machinery and other work.
Bud and Ruth were faithful members of the White Oak Foursquare Church, where she later pastored for 25 years. After leaving White Oak they became members of the New Life Foursquare Church.
Bud was a good husband and father and is survived by his wife Ruth of 68 years; two daughters, Sherry Ramseyer of Big Cabin, Linda Tarr and husband Chuck of Tulsa; two sons, Robert Campbell and wife Malinda of Big Cabin, Albert Campbell and wife Donna of Big Cabin; grandchildren, Melinda Ramseyer, Timothy, Johnathan and Matthew Campbell, Kenny Campbell, Josh Campbell and wife Stevie, Ethan Campbell and wife Susan, Suzanne Campbell-Monroe, Cale, Chloe and Carly Campbell; great grandchildren, Jake and Jason Nace, Mitch and Emily Campbell, Alex and Ayana Campbell, Mika and Elzie Monroe; sister, Chris Takacs; brother, Clarence “Cotton” Campbell and wife Jackie; nieces, Trish, Stephanie, Shellie Reed, nephews Mark and Derek Campbell; brother in law Jim Terneus and children Tommy, Teri and Tami.
