Robert F. Tamplen Sr

Funeral for MSG Robert F. Tamplen, Sr. (ret) of Lawton, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Whinery-Huddleston Chapel. Mr. Tamplen left this world on July 2, 2011 at the age of 84.

Burial will be with Full Military Honors at Sunset Memorial Gardens. He was born November 2, 1926 on his grandfather's farm at Whitesboro, Texas to Floyd and Marie Tamplen.

His parents moved to Tahoka, Texas in 1929. His family moved back to Whitesboro the fall of 1939. He started school in 1933 at a country school in Newlin, Texas east of Tahoka. Schools attended include; Seagraves, Loop and Whitesboro, Texas, graduating from Whitesboro in 1944.

He joined the Army in 1944 serving in many locations before retiring at Fort Sill with over 22 years in 1966. Locations of service include, Italy during WWII, Korea 1953-54, Okinawa 1960-63, and Fort Sill 1963-66. He also served stateside at Fort Smith, Arkansas 1950-51, Louisiana 1947-48, Baltimore, Maryland 1952-53, Ft Hood, TX 1954-1960 and the Pentagon 1946. During the Vietnam period, he served in Okinawa and Taiwan. Medals Awarded in service are WWII Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster, EAME Service Medal w/2 Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal w/6 Loops, Korean Service Medal w/1 Battle Star, United Nations Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Commendation Ribbon w/Medal Pendant (2 Awards), Expert Marksmanship Badge, Republic of China (Taiwan) Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal, U.S. Presidential Unit Citation, and Multiple letters of Commendations.

On January 19, 1946 he married Masel N. Eklund, in Gunter, Texas.

After retiring he worked for 4 years at Montgomery Wards as Manager of the Men's Department. Next he worked for H & R Block for 3 years, then self employed until his final retirement.

In 1963 Mr. Tamplen's Family and seven other families started a Baptist Mission at 67th and Cache Road in the Brockland school building or the Brockland Mission, First Baptist Church. Pastor was retired Rev. Jerry Cox, 75 years old. The Mission served for ten years then became First Baptist West on 61st Street, later moved to its present location on Cache Road.

He was a life member of the North American Hunting Club; National Rifle Association; Disabled American Veterans Chapter: John McCain #56 and The Retired Enlisted Association. He was a member of the Oldies but Goldies Sunday School class at Olivet Baptist Church, Lawton, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Marie Tamplen and his son Robert "Bob" F. Tamplen, Jr. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two children, Deborah Lewis of Lawton, OK, and spouse, Barbara Fletcher and spouse of Lawton, OK; one daughter in law, Georgia Tamplen of Lubbock, Texas; eight grandchildren, Richard Tamplen of Lubbock, TX, Jeffrey Tamplen of Midlothian, Tx, Jennifer Tamplen of Amarillo, TX, Kathy Cozzie of Kennedale, TX, Brian Lewis of Lawton, OK, Christopher Hall of Santa Maria, California, and Kevin Peregoy of Brick, NJ; eleven great grandchildren, Ashley Cozzie and Casey Cozzi of Kennedale, TX, Vanessa and Toby Lewis of Lawton, Ok, Colson Hall of Santa Maria, California, Marcus, Samuel and Megan Tamplen of Lubbock, TX, and Zane Tamplen of Midlothian, TX; one brother Jack Tamplen and wife Pat of Chickasha, OK and one sister Ruby Higgins and husband Hugh of Cleburne, TX.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested you send donations to the Leah M. Fitch Cancer Center, 104 NW 31st St, Lawton, OK , 73505.

Masel [Eklund] Tamplen

Masel Tamplen, Lawton, was born March 3, 1926 in Tioga, Texas to Arthur and Esther [Jacobson] Eklund. She went to her heavenly home to reunite with her loved ones on July 14, 2015 in Lawton at the age of 89.

A visitation will be held Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 6-8pm at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be held Friday, July 17, 2015 at 10:00am at Sunset Memorial Gardens under direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service.

Masel married US Army Ret Robert Tamplen on January 19, 1946 in Gunter, TX. She was a military wife and homemaker who enjoyed taking care of Robert and their three children.

She enjoyed sewing and doing arts and crafts, but most off all enjoyed being a mother.

She was a member of Olivet Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Tamplen, Sr; a son, Robert Tamplen, Jr; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters.

Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Fletcher and husband Mike of Lawton and Debbie Lewis and husband Hal of Lawton; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
