Glenis Dean [Newhouse] Schlumbohm

Funeral for Glenis Dean Schlumbohm, 83, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Whinery-Huddleston Chapel with Jim Holt and Brad Holman officiating.

Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

She died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, in Lawton, at home with her family present.

Glenis was born Jan. 22, 1929, in Honeygrove, Texas, to Alfred and Bessie Byrd Newhouse. Glenis spent her early years in Texas before moving with her family to Oklahoma in 1941.

She married Thomas E. Schlumbohm on Oct. 19, 1946, in Lawton.

She moved southwest of Cache in 1956, where she worked with her Dad to achieve a Grade A Dairy certificate in 1965. Glenis eventually worked for Underwoods BBQ until they closed their restaurant in the early 1970s, and she was then employed as a baker at Comanche County Memorial Hospital, where she retired in 1994 after 20 years.

Glenis worked as a foster grandparent in the Lawton Public Schools system for a number of years, and finally retired to spend her final years growing spring, summer and fall gardens, sewing, reading and piecing together jigsaw puzzles. She spent as much time as possible with family and friends, and once she began serving God, included her spiritual family as well. Glenis loved hymns and her favorite was "Tell Me the Story of Jesus." Her journey here on Earth is finished, and she has joined her spiritual family who has gone before her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; oldest son, Thomas Gary Schlumbohm; three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include two sons: Glenn Schlumbohm and wife Barbara, of Vancouver, Wash.; and Louis Schlumbohm and wife Georgia, of Hinton; two daughters: Sue Taylor and husband Ron, of Lawton; and Melba Cornford and husband Daryl, of Moore; a brother, Arlis Newhouse, of Cache; two sisters: Margie Anderson and husband Dee, of Cottage Grove, Ore.; and Ann Walker and husband Lloyd, of Carsonville, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Pat Newhouse, of Cache; grandchildren: Kim Wyatt, Renee Luig, Heather Macom, Jason Schlumbohm, Emily Trevillian, Debbie Warrington, Ronda Manuel, Brian Schlumbohm, Makenna Maloy, Kayla Hix, Tommy Foley, Tara Winsett, Robby Fleeting and Ashley Fleeting; 25 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and spiritual family members.

The family recommends memorial contributions be made in Glenis' memory to Aspire Hospice which made her final days as comfortable as possible.

Viewing will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m.

Her online guestbook may be signed and condolences sent at www.whineryhuddleston.com.
