Walter H. "Pete" Peters

Walter H. "Pete" Peters was born on July 16, 1944 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to Frank and Muriel [Goodwin] Peters. He died on June 13, 2012 in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 67.

Pete was raised and attended school in Pennsylvania.

He enlisted in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and spent 20 years serving his country at home and at sea. Pete was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, 5 Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, 3 Meritorious Unit Commendations, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He retired in 1992 as an Aviation Support Technician 2nd Class.

He moved to Lawton soon after his retirement where he met and married Nell Jean Wilson on October 8, 1994. Pete spent his retirement as a full time husband, devoted to caring for his wife and family. He was a loving and caring individual who valued his home life and those who were a part of it above all else. Other than family, Pete's only hobby was collecting anything to do with eagles.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Nell Jean of the home; a brother, Alan Peters and wife Chris in Switzerland; 4 step-children he loved like his own, Cheryl Riley and husband Karl, Sheila Frazier and husband Rodney, David Burkett and wife Deborah, and Daniel Burkett and wife Candice, all of Lawton; step-grandkids, James Frazier and wife Trish of Lawton, Kristopher Riley of Boston, MA, Matthew Riley of Lawton, Amy Munhall and husband Alan of Lawton, Dale Burkett of Norfolk, VA, and Jonathan Burkett, April Fuchs, Amanda Beaver and fiance Datric Scott, and Kenneth Beaver and fiancee Tiffany Taylor, all of Lawton; step-great grandkids, Samantha, Alexander, and Timothy Munhall, Nicole Fuchs, Jaylynn Beaver and Mason Scott, all of Lawton.Visitation:
