William L. Scearce, D.D.S.0

Graveside service for William L. Scearce, D.D.S., 73, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 28 at Highland Cemetery with Rev. Gary Pratt, associate pastor, First Assembly of God officiating.

Dr. Scearce died Thursday in a local hospital.

Burial will be under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Friends may view Dr. Scearce beginning at 8 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Dr. Scearce was born Nov. 9, 1937 in Wilburton to Joe L. and Robbie M. [Fleming] Scearce. He married Barbara A. Fite on Aug. 22, 1959 in Tahlequah. William graduated from Northeastern State University and then entered the University of Missouri School of Dentistry, Kansas City, Class of 1963. He practiced general dentistry in Walters and then in Lawton for 40 years. He served on the Oklahoma State Board of Dentistry before his retirement.

He was active in many community endeavors such as Lawton Chamber of Commerce, Lawton City Council and Military Affairs Committee. He had served as president of AUSA and the Black Beaver Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He was an Eagle Scout and the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He was also an active member of the YMCA for many years and the Cameron University Foundation.

His favorite leisure activities were gardening at home and traveling. He and his family were members of the First United Methodist Church for many years and then St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Countless friends and patients were valued more than he could express.

He is survived by his wife of the home; daughter, Kelly Louise Scearce of Norman; son and daughter-in-law, Joe Scearce and Dr. Audra Welch Scearce of Norman; two grandchildren, William David Scearce and Alexandra Elizabeth Scearce both of Norman; four siblings and spouses, Willa Dene Pace of Oklahoma City, Joe Leland and wife Carla Marciacinni Leland of Chevy Chase, Md., Aulena Scearce Gibson and husband Dr. Gilbert C. Gibson of Oklahoma City, Robert Wayne Scearce and wife Ginni Melzerek Scearce of Leawood, Kan.; father-in-law, Dr. Elwin Fite, Ph.D. of Tahlequah; brother-in-law, Dr. Jim Fite, M.D. and wife Charlotte Saunders Fite, Springfield, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Mildred McKee Fite.
