SGM Walter Tolliver USA (Ret), 75, was born December 23, 1938 in Mobile, AL to Lillian Tolliver and Walter Gaines. He passed away April 14, 2014 in Lawton.
A service celebrating the life of Walter will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 11:00 am at Frontier Chapel, 4121 Thomas Rd, Ft Sill, OK. Burial will full military honors will be at Post Cemetery, Ft Sill, under direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service.
He was raised in Alabama and attended the local schools. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army where he served over 27 years. He earned several awards and honors to include: Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Second Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal Eighth Award, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon-3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon-3, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He is preceded in death by his mother Lillian Tolliver and his daughter Tracy Tolliver.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Ophelia, of the home; sons, Gary Tolliver and wife Dorothy, Walter Tolliver, Jr and wife Michaela, Marscell Tolliver and wife Violet and Steven Tolliver and wife Shezare'; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters; 6 brothers and host of nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
