Dwain Neal "Butch" Roe

Funeral service for Dwain Neal "Butch" Roe, 62, of Lawton will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Cameron Baptist Church, Lawton, Oklahoma with Rev. Bob Jones, senior pastor officiating and Rev. Matt Wolff, student pastor, assisting.

Butch passed away on Friday, April 8, 2011 in Lawton.

Burial will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

There will be a special viewing and visitation for family and friends on Monday, April 11, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home 632 SW "C" Ave., Lawton, Oklahoma 73501.

Butch was born on June 12, 1948 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Paul Neal and Myrtle [Jorgensen] Roe. Being the son of a Baptist preacher, he grew up all over the state, graduating from Bowlegs High School in 1966.

He Joined the United States Army on January 29, 1968 and he served with the Special Forces (Green Beret). He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Parachute Badge and the Sharp Shooter Badge with the M-14 and M-16. He was honorably discharged on January 28, 1971.

He served as a Journeyman Electrician for John Bruce Electric in Woodward, Oklahoma for several years before working for ARCO.

He and his family moved to Edmond, Oklahoma where he put his wife through medical school. He has resided in Lawton since 2002 doing various jobs.

He was active in softball and coached for several years. He was a devoted member of Cameron Baptist Church where he taught the Adult 2 Sunday School Class. He also loved to sing in the church choir.

He was an avid OU Sooner fan. He enjoyed social events with the singles group from Cameron Baptist Church. He played the guitar and wrote songs. He was a computer guru. He loved spending holidays and time with his family.

He is survived by his mother, Myrtle Roe, of Madill, Oklahoma; his son and daughter in law, Chris and Chas Roe, of Woodward, Oklahoma; his daughter, Lindsey Roe and her fiancé Christopher Adamson, of Lawton; his former wife, Diane Means, M.D.; his sister and brother in law, Brenda and Len Carter, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Keyaira Rosson and Makayla Adamson; his niece and nephew, Michael Carter and family and Melissa Carter-Shaffer and family; and a host of loving friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Neal Roe; and his grandparents, Dora Roe and Christian and Johanna Jorgensen.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cameron Baptist Church Building Fund at 2621 SW "C" Ave., Lawton, Oklahoma 73505.
