Martin Stokes

April 22, 1936 - September 15, 2017

Martin Collins Stokes, age 81, of Lexington, passed away Friday, September 15, 2017. Martin was born on April 22, 1936, in Lincoln, Vermont, to Clarence and Elizabeth A. (Downer) Stokes. At the age of 19 he joined the Navy and proudly served 10 years. Martin then transferred to the Air Force where he was a TSGT and worked as an electronic equipment technician until his retirement. When he was a young man, Martin married and had children. He later met and married the love of his life, Ruth Mary Sapien. They were married on August 10, 1971. Together Martin and Ruth enjoyed traveling, visiting and living in various states. For enjoyment they both loved to go out dancing.
He was preceded in death by: His parents, Clarence and Elizabeth Stokes; Sister, Violet Stokes; Daughter, Wanda Lee Stokes; Grandson, Tony Toriz.
Martin is survived by: Wife, Ruth Stokes of Lexington, OK; Children, Martin Collins Stokes, Jr., Mike Hickey, Don Paul Hickey, Tami Padilla, April Joy Stokes, Linda Lee Contreras, Alice Kirk;
21 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren.
Graveside services with military honors are scheduled for 1 P.M. on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, OK. Services are under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell.
