CSM(ret) Webster Anderson Woodruff

October 29, 1939 - September 20, 2026

Webster Anderson Woodruff, born October 29, 1939, in Temple, Texas, passed away on September 20, 2026, in Lawton, Oklahoma. He lived a life marked by devotion to family, service to his country, and a quiet strength that touched all who knew him. He will be remembered as a loving, intelligent, and thoughtful man whose presence brought comfort, guidance, and stability to those around him.
Webster was educated in Temple, Texas, where he attended Dunbar High School, and later continued his training at Great Plains Vocational Technical School. His education helped shape a lifetime of discipline, practicality, and determination. He went on to serve his nation faithfully and retired as a Command Sergeant Major in the United States Army, a role that reflected his leadership, commitment, and deep sense of duty. He was awarded several medals; national defense service medal, army service ribbon, army commendation medal, army good conduct medal, bronze star, purple heart, Vietnamese cross of gallantry plus several others. His military career was a source of pride, and his example of service stood as a lasting testament to the values he carried throughout his life.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Webster found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and watching television, and he especially cherished the time he spent with his family. He was a member of the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, reflecting his interest in growth, skill, and community involvement. Those who knew him best will remember his steady manner, his thoughtful words, and the care he showed in both large and small moments.
Webster was preceded in death by his great-great-grandmother, Lucy Bryant; his great-grandparents, John Robinson and Clara Bryant; his grandmother, Mariah Robinson Woodruff; his parents, Lewis Anderson Woodruff, also known as Jack, and Anna Mae Johnson Woodruff; one aunt, Emeline Woodruff Johnson; four brothers, Richard Wesley Woodruff, John Bryant Woodruff, James Arthur Woodruff, and Harold Woodruff; four sisters, Mae Francis Lockhart, Wanda Gaines, Gloria Ann Jones, and Doroty Woodruff; and two grandchildren, Kareena Jackson and Victor Jackson. Their memories remained a part of his life story and the family history he carried with dignity.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Dorothy Woodruff; his son, Greg Woodruff both of the home; his daughter, Pamela Renee Woodruff McCullough of Lawton, Oklahoma; and his son, Jeffrey Woodruff and wife Karen of Elk City, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his brother, Basil Woodruff of Duncanville, Texas. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Travis McCullough Sr., Kelvin Woodruff and Keyona Woodruff of Lawton, and Sedric Waggoner Keel of Elk City, Oklahoma. He is further remembered by his great-grandchildren, Alexia McCullough, Isabella McCullough, Travis McCullough Jr., Evelyn McCullough, and Kaleel Woodruff of Lawton, Oklahoma, as well as DaShauria Jackson, DaShaeyla Jackson, and DaShaunna Jackson of Elk City, Oklahoma. He was blessed to see the joy of one great-great-grandchild, Mia Renee McCullough.
Webster's life was one of devotion, resilience, and enduring love. He leaves behind a family strengthened by his example and a host of memories that will be treasured for generations. His life reflected the truth of the words by Ralph Waldo Emerson: "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Webster Anderson Woodruff succeeded in that measure and more, because his life made others feel supported, valued, and loved.
Though he has departed this earthly life, the lessons he taught, the service he rendered, and the love he shared will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him. His memory will be honored not only for what he accomplished, but for the character he displayed and the family he cherished. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2028 from, 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 9, 2026, in the Stoney Huddleston Memorial Chapel Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service; 6210 NW Cache Road Lawton, OK 73505.
