George Paulsen

Funeral services for George J. Paulsen, 86, of Fletcher, will be Monday, January 3, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, Fletcher, with Rev. Mike Tompkins, Director of Missions of Comanche-Cotton Baptist Association, and Rev. Rodney Campbell, pastor, officiating.

Mr. Paulsen died, Friday, December 31, 2004, in a Chickasha nursing center.

Burial will be in the Fletcher Cemetery, Fletcher, OK, under direction of Hodge Funeral Home, Fletcher.

He was born February 22, 1918, in Litchfield, Nebraska, and was raised in that area until he joined the U.S. Army, and served during World War II and was stationed in Ft. Sill, where he met and married Opal [McCarty], June 4, 1944, in Fletcher. They moved to Spokane, Washington, where he was stationed. They moved back to Fletcher after the war in 1946, where they had lived since.

They owned and operated a café and later a children's clothing store and a grocery store in Fletcher. Mr. Paulsen went to work for ARKLA gas company, now Reliant Gas Co., and retired from there in 1980.

His wife, Opal, died January 11, 2003.

Mr. Paulsen enjoyed sports and reminiscing of ranching as a child. He was a member of the American Legion of Fletcher.

He is survived by a son, Douglas Paulsen, of Chickasha, a sister, Leona McMasters, of Scotts Bluff, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Peter Paulsen and Marie [Meyers] Paulsen, his wife, Opal, 4 brothers, Leo, Jim, Ira, and Joe, 2 sisters, Darlene Case and Pearl Mentz.

Services are under the direction of Hodge Funeral Home.
