David Harry Claypool

Funeral services for David Harry Claypool, 85, of Fletcher, were at 1:20 p.m. Thursday, October 14, 1999, in the Fletcher Christian Church with Jim Hall, Pastor, officiating.

Burial was in the Fletcher Cemetery, under the direction of Robbins Funeral Home in Fletcher.

Mr. Claypool died Monday, October 11, 1999, in his home.

He was born August 12, 1914, in the Denton community near Marlow. He attended grade school at Prairie Center and graduated from Central High, located west of Marlow, in 1934.

He farmed for a few years in Oklahoma, then moved to California in 1940 and worked various jobs. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp. in California in 1942 and served as a parachute rigger. He served as Staff Sergeant in the 82nd fighter group, serving in Italy, Sicily and Africa and receiving the European Ribbon with four battle stars, Presidential Citation with two Oak Leaf Clusters and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in September 1944, and returned to Oklahoma.

He married Julia Griffon on August 1, 1946 in El Reno, and moved to Fletcher. She died September 19, 1998.

Mr. Claypool worked for Apco Refinery in Cyril for 30 years, retiring in 1967. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, receiving his 50 year pin in 1987. He was a life-member of V.F.W. Post 8580 of Elgin; member of American Legion of Fletcher and was a member of the Fletcher Christian Church.

He is survived by: a brother, Joe Claypool of Edmond; a sister, Sophia Bass of Ojal, California; two nephews, Damon Carlton of Lexington and Randy Claypool of Tuttle, three nieces JoAnn Cobble of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Hattie Hiesey of Carmichael, California and Reba Jo Bass.

Julia Ann [Zisman] Claypool

FLETCHER -Funeral for Julia Ann Claypool, 88, Fletcher, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fletcher Christian Church, with pastor Jim Hall officiating.

Burial will be in Fletcher Cemetery under direction of Robbins Funeral Home.

She was born in Fletcher and graduated from Fletcher High School in 1926.

She received a bachelor's degree from Central State Teachers College and a master's degree from Oklahoma University in 1953.

She taught at West View, Cedar Grove, Denton, Elgin and Fletcher and retired after teaching 42 years.

She married Lee Griffin in 1936. He died in 1944. She married David Harry Claypool in 1946 and moved to Fletcher, living there since that time.

She was Comanche County Teacher of the Year in 1962. She was a member of Fletcher Christian Church and was a co-teacher of a ladies Sunday school class for many years. She was a member of the Oklahoma Education Association, the Comanche County Educators Association and the Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association. She was a charter member and past president of Fleur-de-Lis garden club and a charter member and past president of the Fletcher American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband.
