Mrs. Eliza Pierce passed away Sunday morning as result of burns

Mrs. Eliza Pierce of Faxon met with a horrible death when her dress caught fire from a stove while she was burning paper Friday evening. According to meager reports, Mrs. Pierce was burning paper in the burner when her clothing in some manner caught fire and before assistance could reach her, her body was enveloped in flames. The flesh was practically cooked in places, although Mrs. Pierce lived until seven o'clock Saturday morning. Mrs. Pierce had reached the ripe old age of 89 years, and for her to meet such a tragic death at her age seems more than sad. A little boy is said to have been in the home with her. No detailed information could be obtained.

A Pierce, a son of Cyril, Okla., was passing through Lawton Saturday enroute to Faxon and while here, made arrangement with the St. Clair Undertaking Company for the funeral. He did not know the exact particulars of the death of his mother.

Mrs. Pierce is survived by six sons: J.C. of Faxon; A Pierce, Cyril; W.M., Altus; Bud, Duncan; Tom, Pauls Valley; Charles, Royall, Okla. One daughter also survives, living in St. Jo, TX.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Baptist church and burial will be made in the Faxon Cemetery. Mrs. Pierce was a splendid Christian woman and had been a member of the Baptist Church for sixty years.
