Katherine E. [Miller] Chance

Birth date: December 2, 1918
Death date: November 25, 2013

Katherine E. Chance was born December 2, 1918 in Green Forrest, Arkansas to Emma [Lockhart] and Clay Miller. She died at a local hospital on November 25, 2013 in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 94.

She had six siblings at the time her mother passed from this life. Katherine was twelve years old and helped to mother the younger children. Her father remarried to Minnie Early and eventually she gained six more siblings.

Katherine lived in the Wichita Mountains and went to Cache schools.

She met her "soul mate" Forrest Chapman from Roosevelt, Oklahoma while she was attending Cameron College and he was serving in the (CCC) Civilian Conservation Corp. They married December 24, 1934 in Lawton. They moved to California in 1942 after the birth of their daughter Shario; Forrest worked in the Oakland Shipyards and it was there Katherine gave birth to their son Forrest Jr. They moved to several areas, but were living in Riverdale, California at the time Forrest was killed in an automobile accident on November 24, 1974.

Katherine was a loving mother who was devoted to her family. She was an avid Christian and helped to minister alongside her husband who preached at the Riverdale Church of Christ for many years. In 1976, she returned to Oklahoma; later she was remarried to an old family friend, Raymond "Jake" Chance, so she inherited a large family. They lived in Cache, OK and attended the Church of Christ. When Jake passed she continued to live there and was a member for over thirty-five years.

She loved keeping up her home and yard, family reunions and weddings, and talking on the phone with her sisters. Katherine had a stroke in 2007 and Sharion and her husband Mike Mode moved in to take care of here. She was a resident at the Village on Lee for about ten months in 2010. They all moved to a new home in Walters when she continued to live till October when she moved to Temple Manor.

Katherine is survived by Sharion and Mike Mode of Walters, and their daughter and their families; a son, Forrest and Sue Chapman of Milton, Florida, and their children and families. There are over 40 grandchildren including greats living across the US accredited to matriarch Katherine. She is also survived by four sisters: Mary Fort, of Cache, Betty Thaler, of Lawton, Barbara and husband Larry Burk of Lawton and Juanita and Howard Money of Eufala, AL; one brother, Roy and Linda Miller of Lawton.

She was preceded in death by four sisters: Lucille Northcutt, Mae Schlacton, Neva Horn and Margaret Drew; three brothers, Woodrow Miller, Jessie Miller and Herman Wright. She also had many other loving family members, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
