Ola Fay Hampton Reed

reed-of

January 27, 1920 ~ January 25, 2022

Ms. Ola Fay (Hampton) Reed, a Coalgate resident, was born on January 27, 1920, to James Charlie and Melva Selene (Hicks) Hampton, at Coal County, OK. She passed away on January 25, 2022 at Coalgate, OK at the age of 101 years, 11 months and 29 days.

Ms. Reed attended school at Pleasant Valley in Olney, OK. She was a cook at Hudson's Big Country Store until they closed. Ms. Reed was a wonderful housewife and a farmer. She married George Reed on January 25, 1941 at the Magness Barber Shop in Coalgate. Mr. Magness was their preacher and since they didn't get married on Sunday at the church, they were married at his barber shop. Ms. Reed was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Coalgate and attended regularly until she was well over 100 years old. She was a manor volunteer for many years where she enjoyed helping the residents do quilting projects. Ms. Reed liked to crochet, work in her garden and can. She was an excellent cook and known all over for the hamburgers, pot roast and tomato macaroni she prepared at Hudson's.

Ms. Reed loved playing games. She enjoyed living life to it's fullest. It wasn't uncommon to find her in the floor playing with her grandchildren, on the back of a motor cycle or on a ski doo. Many generations of adults and children went to her house every Halloween where she was dressed in her costume handing out her famous popcorn balls.
