Vernon "Leroy" Deskin

Funeral services for Vernon "Leroy" Deskin, a longtime Coal County resident, were held Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown's Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Rev. Bill Weathers officiating. Burial was in Moore Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service of Coalgate.

Mrs. Deskin was born may 30, 1925 in Coal County, OK to Samuel Wesley Desking and Zellar Leu (Yandell) Deskin and passed away April 23, 2010 in Coalgate at the age of 84. He attended Cairo and Mowdy schools and married Edith Lucille Hicks on May 24, 1962 in Coalgate, OK. "Leroy" worked for Coalgate Record Register operating press for 30 years. He was avid outdoorsman, raised hunting dogs, enjoyed all types of hunting and enjoyed hunting with his wife Edith. "Leroy" was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Lucille (Hicks) Deskin of the home; brother, Leonard Deskin and wife Dolly of Borger, TX; sister, Jeraldine Hooe and husband Paul of Coalgate, OK; nieces, Tammy Shirley, Scarlett Anderson, Virginia Cometti, Roxanne Deskin, and Debbie Hynes; nephews, Alan Casey, Larry Casey, Dale Ennis, Matt Hooe, Leon Deskin and James Ennis along with many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Elaine Deskin; nephew, Danny Deskin; brother, Thomas Deskin; and sisters, Marie Casey and Lucille Ennis.

Casketbearers were Alan Casey, Larry Casey, Dale Ennis, Matt Hooe, Jack Shirley, and Mike Anderson
