Sammye Pauline (Brazell) Cupp

Sammye Pauline (Brazell) Cupp went to be with Jesus on March 15, 2021, at the age of 96. Sammye was born, September 5, 1924, in Blair, Jackson County, Oklahoma, to Hurshell and Wilma Brazell. She graduated from Warren, Oklahoma, High School in 1942 as salutatorian of her class.

Sammye married Kenneth Cupp, the love of her life, May 30, 1942. They were married 63 years. They settled in the Warren community for several years, where they ran a country grocery and were blessed with two children, Ronnie Wayne Cupp and Brenda Pauline (Waack) Cupp.

In 1954, Kenneth accepted a job as assistant manager of the Furr Foods supermarket in Borger, Texas. Thus began a career in the grocery business and sales that led them back to Oklahoma In 1957, to Watonga, and later to stops in Woodward, Altus and finally to Pauls Valley, where they resided for nearly 20 years. The couple's final move to Enid, Oklahoma, came in 1979, when Kenneth was given a new territory by then Mass McKesson Merchandising to service Northwest Oklahoma. They resided in Enid 26 years. Sammye remained in Enid after Kenneth's death in 2005, until moving to Oklahoma City in 2019 to be closer to children.

Sammye was active in Baptist churches at each stop, teaching Sunday School wherever she lived. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Enid for more than 40 years. She was also deeply involved in Our Daily Bread, volunteering at the Integris Hospital in Enid, the Enid Stamp Club, for which she was a past president, and the local Genealogy Society. She wrote a genealogical book on the Brazell name. She loved her weekly canasta group and her many friends.

Sammye was preceded death by her dad, Hurshell Brazell, mother, Wilma Brazell, who died when she was five, stepmother, Jeannie Brazell, sister Ella Jo Ankerholz, sister Benthal Collins, brother James Dale Brazell and granddaughter Karli Waack.

She is survived by son Ronn Cupp and wife, Beth, of Oklahoma City, daughter Brenda (Waack) Cupp and husband Matt, of San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren, Kimberli Waack of San Antonio, Angela Kersh (Cupp), RN, and husband, Paul of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Dr. Dustin Cupp and wife Amanda of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and her grandchildren, whom she adored, Makenna (Kersh) Kem and husband Josh, Will Kersh, Carson Cupp, Andrew Cupp, Abigail Cupp, Lizzie Kersh, Claire Cupp and Blaze Kersh.

Graveside services for Sammye are scheduled for Saturday, March 20, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at Warren Cemetery with Pastor Paul Kersh officiating. Public viewing will begin Friday, March 19, 2021, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home located at 1400 West Main street in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. (580)846-9018.
