Franklin Braxton Seratte, 76, of Norman, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2014 in Norman.

He was born January 28, 1938 in Cincinnati, Arkansas to Finnis Edward and Margaret (Temple) Seratte. Frank grew up in and around Westville, Oklahoma. His first job was delivering two newspaper routes. He lived in the Westville area until he was 16, then his family moved to Wichita, Kansas where he graduated from Wichita North High School. Frank was the fifth child of a family of ten children, including one brother and eight sisters. He loved his large family. Frank and a cousin organized his mother’s family reunion over twenty years ago and they are still meeting today.

Frank met Carolyn Anderson at Olivet Baptist Church in Wichita, Kansas in 1961. Their first date was to the church Sweetheart Banquet on February 11, 1961. They were married at the Olivet Baptist Church on March 17, 1962.

Frank made a profession of faith at the age of five in a Sunbeams class. He was raised attending church and was given the opportunity to speak at various functions at a young age. He taught several classes for young boys, men and young married couples. Frank was ordained as a Southern Baptist Deacon in 1971 at the Sixth Avenue Baptist Church in Dodge City, Kansas, where he served as SS Director. While living in Wichita he served as Commissioner for Sports for the Sedgwick County Southern Baptist Churches. He has also served as Chairman of the Deacons, served on the Committee for Committees for the Southern Baptist Convention and headed a church building campaign.

Franks priorities in life consisted of God, family, church, softball, the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Yankees. He loved to laugh. Frank enjoyed telling long and involved stories that had funny endings as well as playing softball and basketball. Frank coached Jon’s baseball and softball teams. He also enjoyed music. He did not have a good singing voice but he sang to his children and never missed Cindy and Jon’s singing performances and piano recitals.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John Edward Seratte; and his sister, Floye Kate Adkerson.

Frank is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Anderson) Seratte; his daughter, Cindy K. Orr and husband Kenneth; his son, Jon F. Seratte and wife Jan; his grandchildren, Heather and Daniel Orr, and Ashton and Alyssa Seratte; his sisters, Velma Reece of Springdale, AR, Pauline Bolen and husband Don of Harker Heights, TX, Melba Hornecker of Eureka Springs, AR, Sharon Faulkner and husband Jerry of Lawrence, KS, Glenda Cowell and husband Jack of Wellington, KS, Peggy Wood and husband Jack of Benton, AR, and Pat Scharff, Eureka Springs, AR; and many nieces and nephews.
