Charles Alvie Rettig

Charles Alvie Rettig, 81 years old, born September 12, 1932 to Frank and Mildred Rettig in Engram Ridge, Missouri, passed away on October 22, 2013 at his home in Norman, Oklahoma.  Charles was married to the late Ann Carlene Rettig on March 16, 1952. 

Charles honorably retired from the United States Army as a Chief Warrant Officer with 21+ years of service.  His time included serving in the Korean War and three tours in Vietnam.  He earned 4 Silver Stars, a Purple Heart and 3 Bronze Star, among many other medals and ribbons.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and pets, and talking with everyone he met. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ann Carlene Rettig; his parents, Frank and Mildred Rettig; and a sister, Marion Frances Rettig. 

He is survived by his four sons, Reverend Charles R. Rettig and his wife Jenny of Holdenville, Oklahoma; Ronald Rettig and his wife Deborah of Keller, Texas; Larry Rettig of Norman, Oklahoma; Dennis Rettig and his wife Patricia of Norman, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; two sisters, Imogene Rettig Talley of Hayti, Missouri and Ellen Joyce James Rettig of Jackson, Missouri; and brother, Donald Ray Rettig of Hayti, Missouri.

A very special thank you to the nurses and staff at Lifecare Hospice.  Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Randy Rettig of Grapevine, Texas; James Rettig of Norman, Oklahoma; Dustin Rettig of Norman, Oklahoma; Joshua Rettig of Fort Worth, Texas; Derek Rettig, presently stationed in Afghanistan; Jeff Stark of Newcastle, Oklahoma; Jay Sullivan of Fort Worth, Texas; and Travis Talley of Taylor, Texas.    

Visitation will be held at Havenbrook Funeral Home on Friday, October 25, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, October 27, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Service will be 1 p.m., Monday, October 28, 2013 in the Chapel at the Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman with interment following in Sunset Memorial Park in Norman.
