Max Eugene Neff

Max Eugene Neff of Moore, Oklahoma, died September 14, 2007. Max was born January 1, 1920 in Stilwell, OK to Ed and Mary Etta Keys Neff. He married Colleen Buckner August 16, 1946 in Bentonville, AR.</p><p>

Mr. Neff joined the Civilian Conservation Corp. (CCC) when he was 17 years old where he spent that time in Wyoming. Following CCC, Mr. Neff enlisted in the United States Army on January 1940, and served in the European Theatre during World War II where he received his commission as a 2LT. After returning from World War II, he served with the Occupation Forces in Japan. He also served two tours in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He retired with over 23 years of service to his country.

Following his military service, he attended Barbar College and worked at several barber shops in Norman including the barber shop at the OU Student Union. He later opened a shop on Main Street in Norman. After he sold his shop, he worked part time at OU for 15 years. He enjoyed working with his hands and later in life he enjoyed making benches and bird houses for friends and family. He also enjoyed working in his yard.

Mr. Neff is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, and grandson; Steve Rivers.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Colleen, and six children; Joe Neff and his wife Cathy of Yuma, Ariz, Donna Bolden and her husband Paul of Summerville, S.C., Paul Neff and his wife Lynne of Moore, OK., Jeff Neff and his wife Kathy of Oklahoma City, OK., Carolyn Rivers and her husband Bill of Fayetteville, Ark., and Jon Neff of Moore, OK., nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survied by one brother; Billy Ray Neff of Norman and two sisters; Rozella Brewer of Stilwell, OK., and Elizabeth Ann Thomas of Norman, OK.

Service were held Monday at the Ireland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Norman, OK.
