Our cherished Mom and Mimi, Janet Alvarado, passed away on Nov. 24, after a short illness.  While exceptional sharing love and patience with her children and grandkids, she treasured, and was treasured, by her husband Rudy.

Married for 57 years, they met and married after only 6 months.  He from Texas; she from Wisconsin.  They lived overseas, in New Jersey and Illinois before settling in Oklahoma more than 45 years ago.  Their four children – Richard, Corde, Randy, and Renee – were her occupation.  Our Mom was unwavering in her consistent love, calming presence, and organized approach to all things.

She supported our Dad’s serial entrepreneurship by providing reality checks and sweat equity along the way.  Their successes were rewarded with indelible memories formed during travels to five continents.  There wasn’t a gift shop she didn’t veer into.  The treasures she found, sparking memories of every adventure.

She was born in Pulaski, WI on May 18, 1939.  She attended college.  Was masterful at crossword puzzles and a voracious reader.  She showed love by celebrating the seasons and quietly enjoyed us seeing her efforts.  Steadfast love and patience were her hallmarks.

Mom is preceded in death by her parents, brother, and a grandson.

In addition to her husband and children, she also is survived by her sister Maria and brother Ron; kids-in-law Janita, Kent, and Chris; and grandchildren: Justin and Ryan Alvarado, Kyle and Bryce Dunlap, and Ellie Porter.

Wake will be held on Mon, Nov. 30 at 7 pm and funeral mass on Tues, Dec. 1 at 10 am – both at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Norman, which she loved.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a gift to Scissortail CDC, 7000 Crossroads Blvd, #1132, OKC, OK 73149, a nonprofit, so children’s books may be gifted in her memory.
