Danny Lee “Dan” Smith, was called home on March 20, 2016 and is now dancing in heaven. He was born to Ted and Maxine Smith on February 9, 1945, in a farmhouse in Rosston, OK, along with his twin, Donna.

He graduated from Rosston High School in 1963 and attended Business College at the Oklahoma School of Business and Banking. He then served in the United States Air Force from 1967-72.

Dan was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He always put others before himself and filled the room with laughter. He enjoyed OU football games, spending time at the lake, dancing, trains and reading his daily devotions with his wife. Dan was an amazing man and will be greatly missed by many.

He began a lifelong career with Lee Way Motor Freight, now Lee Investments, in 1970. For the past 46 years the Lee family had the privilege of knowing and working with Dan. He helped to mentor and partner with multiple generations of the family.  At work, as in life, he was a man of integrity, honesty and incredible loyalty who was a true gentleman. Dan was a team leader who was quick to give praise and express appreciation to his co-workers.  He was a great communicator who had the ability to explain difficult concepts in an easily understandable manner. He brought a joy of life and a quick wit to work each day and his loss will be deeply felt.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie; son, Todd Smith; daughter, Heather Grable and husband Michael; daughter Christy Mitchell and husband Mike; daughter, Nora Sparks and husband Steve Thomas; sisters, Donna Weston and husband Bob; and Barbara Hoefner; grandchildren, Dakota and Annalesa Mitchell, Dalton Burns, Tracey and Morgan Sparks, Sean Thomas, Brandi Moore and husband Chris, Bradley Ransome and wife Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Bailee Moore; Bryan, Jacob, and Hunter Ransome, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Maxine Smith; brother, Jay Dee Smith; sister, Melita Gieswein; son, Robby Burns; grandson, Christofer Mitchell; daughter-in-law, Sharon Smith.

Viewing will be at Resthaven Funeral Home, 500 SW 104th, OKC, OK 73139, Tuesday, March 22nd and Wednesday, March 23rd, from 10 to 6 p.m. Family visitation will be Wednesday, March 23rd, 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 24th, in the Chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home.
