Richard Ralph Gamel, 90, of Norman, Oklahoma passed away on December 26, 2013.

Richard was born on September 6, 1923 in Krum, Texas to Carl and Myrtle (Markham) Gamel. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1942-1953 in WWII and the Korean War. Richard worked as chief of engineering for the Federal Aviation Administration until retirement.  He also was a cattle rancher and owned Eastoak Oil Company.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Winifred Lee Gamel, Marvin Eugene Gamel and William Carl Gamel; sister, Rosemary (Gamel) Johnson; and Richard’s first wife, Betty Jean Gamel.

Richard is survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife of six years, Connie Gamel; nephews, Thomas Gamel, Grant Gamel and John Johnson; nieces, Gay Gamel, Mary Lou Foster and Kelly Johnson Drummond.

Visitation will be held 12:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman.

Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 235 W. Duffy St. in Norman with interment following at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 500 SW 104th St., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
