Lyle passed peacefully on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at his daughters home in Norman, OK.

Lyle was born on May 26, 1923 in Crescent, OK to parents Ernest & Elizabeth Wakeman. Lyle joined the United States Marine Corp on February 9, 1943. He served in the South Pacific on the island of Peleliu, Palau Islands with members of the "Werewolf Corsair Fighters Squardon." Lyle was a Technical Sergeant at time of discharge in 1945. After returning to Oklahoma in 1945 Lyle began his career at Tinker Air Force Base. He began his career as an  Aircraft sheet metal worker, and retired in February 1986 as an Industrial Engineer Technician.

In February 1950 he married Vera Marie Sanders. In August of 1955 they welcomed daughter Donna Wakeman. After 43 years of marriage Vera preceded Lyle in death. Lyle enjoyed spending his free time after retirement with his three grandchildren, Jason, Trenton, and Ryan Elizabeth Dunn. Lyle was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also appreciated a good bargain as evidenced by his many garage sale purchases. Especially a passion for 8-track tapes and players. Lyle enjoyed tinkering on car engines or anything else mechanical.

In February on 1994 Lyle reunited with his high school sweetheart Ruth Youngblood. They married in December 1994. She survives him living with family in Florida. They were members of Northwest Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, OK.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Elizabeth Wakeman; wife Vera; sisters Wildean Owens & Neva Wandell; and son-in-law Jim Dunn.

Lyle is survived by wife, Ruth Wakeman; daughter, Donna and husband Jeff Young; grandchildren, Jason Dunn, Trenton Dunn, Ryan Elizabeth Dunn; great grandchildren, Paige Moore & Madison Dunn; brother, Ernest Junior Wakeman and wife Deloris; sister, Jaunita Anneler; and a host of family and friends.

We would like to thank Heavenly Hospice nurses and staff for all of their help and support through this time. Another special thank you to Hillary Wratten for her loving care for Lyle during these last weeks.

Family will receive friends at Havenbrook on Wednesday October 19, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2011, in the Chapel of the Havenbrook Funeral Home with interment following at the Norman IOOF Cemetery.
