Linda Hughes, Ph.D., R.N., of Richmond, VA passed away August 12, 2015.
She was born May 27,
1950 to Thomas Wendall and Juanita (Parrott) Hughes in Purcell, OK. She
graduated with her B.S.N. from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1972 following the
footsteps of her mother who also attended OBU and pursued a career in nursing.
Linda then received her M.S.N. from Texas Women’s University in 1978 and her
Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of Texas in 1993. She was a skilled
critical care nurse and taught at Oklahoma Baptist University, the University of
Oklahoma, Wichita State University, University of Texas Medical Branch, the
University of North Carolina and Virginia Commonwealth University. Retiring in
2012, she continued to advance in the field of nursing, assisting former
students, continuing to write and review articles for professional publication,
and also studying her love in the history of nursing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved grandmother, Annie
Parrott.
She is survived by her sister, Phyllis Ann Hughes of Belton, TX; her
nephew, Thomas Jason Wiseman, his wife Liza Lugo Wiseman; great nephews, Grant
Lawrence and Graham Thomas of Belton, TX; her beloved dog, Muffie, whom was a
bright ray of light in her life. She will also be remembered by several
students, colleagues and close friends from the many areas she lived and taught.
Linda was a devoted nurse, sister, aunt, and friend. Her bright smile, quick
wit, and wisdom will be missed by all who knew her.
Graveside services are 10:00AM, Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Norman IOOF
Cemetery. A memorial service will also be held in Richmond, VA at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to a charity of choice.
